Duck

Enjoy the Uniqueness of the Wood Duck

Most ducks nest on the ground, but one prefers to nest in tree cavities. This is the colorful Wood Duck. In response to mama's calls, the newly hatched ducklings dive off the tree, no matter how high the cavity may be. Once all are on the ground, mama duck leads them off to the nearest water body. We like to keep their commonly used dead trees cleared for safety thus decreasing their nesting opportunities. The cut trees can be replaced by Wood Duck Houses located near water bodies. Being much lower, these nest boxes are safer for the ducklings initial dive, particularly when located in grassy or marshy areas.
