Books

Bird Books are an Integral Component

of the Birder Lifestyle

When bird watching the birder often gets only a fleeting glimps of a bird. The ability to quiickly identify such birds is a valuable asset. While this asset involves experience, it begins with studying bird books. This includes pictures which are usually the most important component of field guides. It also, however, includes such knowledge as habitate, behavior, feeding habits, etc. While some information of this nature in included in field guides, it is more available in comprehensive bird encyclopdic books and books focusing on a single bird type. Studying the various books and memorizing pictures before ever going to the field is an important component of quick identification. A compact, preferably pocket sized, field guide is the final requirement for every birder.
